Biography
James Freeland
Managing Partner
Jamie Freeland is an experienced leveraged finance investor with more than two decades of work across private credit, structured finance, and equity investment in the middle market. His career has been defined by a consistent focus on businesses that are often overlooked by larger institutional capital — established companies with strong fundamentals and owners who value a thoughtful, long-term partner.
Most recently, Jamie was at Summit Partners from 2011 to 2024, where he served as Chief Investment Officer of Credit. He founded the credit business, chaired the Investment Committee, and built and led the team responsible for all investment activity. Under his leadership, the group raised four funds, completed 63 investments, and deployed $4.1bn across a range of industries, with a particular focus on gaming, consumer-facing businesses, healthcare, and oil and gas.
Prior to Summit Partners, Jamie spent over a decade at Guggenheim Partners as a Managing Director in New York, where he was one of five original members of the leveraged finance platform and sat on the Investment Committee. The team grew from that founding group into one of the leading leveraged finance businesses in the market.
Jamie holds a degree in Economics from the College of William and Mary.
